An intergenerational Palm Sunday Pageant
with Procession and Holy Communion
Pageant Details:
This is CCSS News Network reporting live from Jerusalem!
We are witnessing a huge procession of Jesus of Nazareth into this city. Who is this so-called prophet who shares a meal with a tax collector and is even reported to have raised someone from the dead? We have live interviews with his followers who claim to have seen these things and are part of this throng following him to the temple. Stay tuned as this story develops!
We encourage you to come to experience this wonderful pageant as a way of supporting the youth of our parish.
Directed by Judith MacDonald, Produced by Heather Downey

Join Rev. Dr. Kyle as we begin the journey to the Passion.
The Stations of the Cross (or The Way of the Cross) is a prayerful devotion that recalls the series of events leading up to Jesus' crucifixion and burial. In the early centuries of the Christian faith, pilgrims to Jerusalem often visited the places connected to the final hours of Jesus' earthly life.

Tenebrae Service with full choir, Directed by Tessa Short. The word "Tenebrae" comes from the Latin meaning "darkness." The Tenebrae is an ancient Christian tradition that makes use of gradually diminishing light through the extinguishing of candles to symbolize the events of that week from the triumphant Palm Sunday entry through Jesus' burial. This increasing darkness symbolizes the approaching darkness of Jesus' death and of hopelessness in the world without God.

Join us for an evening of sharing an historic meal that comes to life through the lens of the Scriptures. We will journey through the last Passover meal Jesus shared with His disciples before going to the Cross. Your senses will be opened through the sights, sounds and tastes of a dinner that has become the Christian Communion.
It was in this context, the Seder meal that Jesus was having with his disciples, the LAST SUPPER, before His arrest, trial and crucifixion that Jesus instituted for us as His followers, the sacrament of Holy Communion. For us as Anglicans, the words of the liturgy for Holy Eucharist contain the exact words of Jesus regarding His body and blood, “Whenever you eat or drink this, do it in remembrance of me.” The 4 cups of the Passover become one with the blood of Jesus. The bread or Matzo, become the body of the Pascal Lamb, the body of Jesus in which we find the forgiveness of our sins, the complete and total defeat of evil in our lives and true freedom in a relationship with Jesus Christ, the living God. As Anglicans, the whole liturgy of Holy Eucharist is a preparation to coming to the Lord’s Table to receive His most precious body and blood. Holy Eucharist is our way of reliving that Passover Meal, that Last Supper, the disciples enjoyed with Jesus.

“This is the day that Christ gathered with his disciples in the upper room. This is the day that Christ took a towel and washed the disciples' feet, giving us an example that we should do to others as he has done to us” (BAS, p. 304). On the eve of Thursday at Christ Church, we begin the Paschal Triduum or the Three Great Days. At our Maundy Thursday service, we listen to John's Gospel and how Jesus washed his disciples' feet.
A service of Holy Communion with choir.

The Seven Last Words of Christ Piano Concert
Christ Church accompanist, the talented Joseph Dowell, will be performing a special Holy Week presentation of "Die sieben letzten Worte unseres Erlösers am Kreuze" (The Seven Last Words of Our Saviour on the Cross) by Joseph Haydn. The work was originally commissioned and written for orchestra in 1786 and was afterwards arranged for string quartet, as an oratorio, and as in our performance, solo piano. Each movement after the introduction references the last phrases that Jesus is said to have uttered during his crucifixion, and the work ends with a movement referencing the earthquake that coincided with his passing. This powerful performance will be accompanied by brief readings and passages that will provide context and meditative reflections for each movement. This very special event is not one to be missed.
Entry is by donation

Sunrise Service and Fellowship: 6:00am in front of the church.
Easter Morning Service: In the early hours, well before the light of dawn. When the events of Good Friday and the bleak grip of Holy Saturday continue to cast a shadow over the small hours of Sunday morning, something is about to happen. That something is unimaginable and virtually incomprehensible. We will gather on the grounds of Christ Church to renew our baptismal vows, to hear the ancient promises of hope and salvation. We will process and sing. Then we will enter into the drama that is at the center of our faith, that extraordinary Easter Sunday morning event that changes the world.
