John David Bogardus

John Bogardus is a curious and passionate conductor who can often be seen waving his hands while humming scores as he prepares to lead a patchwork of eager musicians in rehearsal or performances.
From a young age, John has been playing violin, conducting ensembles, scoring and writing music. Growing up in upstate New York gave John a lot of valuable and memorable musical experiences, from helping run and organize music camps to performing in Carnegie Hall. Since moving to Nova Scotia over more than a decade ago, John has inspired many musicians in addition to starting this accessible music program in the heart of Halifax.
In 2010 John started the music program we know today as the Halifax Music Co-op. Originally the Kings' College Orchestra, started during his time working for the King's College Chapel Choir, John has devoted his life to nurturing growth the HMC and its membership. John conducts orchestras and choirs at the HMC, including the wildly popular Inventions Orchestra every fall, and as Music Director serves as head of the faculty. John’s undying passion for music and music education is the fire that keeps the HMC going.
A deeply religious Anglican John is excited by his place at Christ Church Dartmouth which bring together both a passion for The Church and Anglican Church Music and a long standing family heritage of serving at Christ Church Greenville for more than 50 years.
