About the Climate Cafe
We held our first in-person Christ Church Climate Cafe on April 21st 2022. Since then, we have met monthly. Everyone is welcome - from the Christ Church community and the community at large.
The purpose of the the Climate Cafe is constant; it is a safe and supportive place to talk about our feelings about climate change. Trained Facilitators lead each gathering. Nancy Blair, a Climate Psychotherapist, and parishioner at Christ Church, started the program. Within the year, David Paterson, a teacher, took the necessary training and became a co-leader.
We continue to grow - in our capacity to lead and train and also in our outreach. Initially our Christ Church Climate Cafe, with support from Christ Church, supported Facilitator Training through the training of the Climate Psychology Alliance (CPA) UK and NA. We now provide Facilitator Training and have provided training sessions on three occasions.
We are one of the three groups who created and now lead NS Climate Cafes https://nsclimatecafes.com/#about. Our partners are Healthy Minds Cooperative https://www.healthyminds.ca/ and Wil Brunner, Soft Pine Wellness https://www.softpinewellness.ca/.
We continue to offer our in-person monthly Climate Cafe at Christ Church and also two virtual Climate Cafes each month. The schedule and information on how to register for the virtual Climate Cafes is provided on the Nova Scotia Climate Cafes website. In response to wildfires and drought in the Province, we held our first Pop-Up Climate Cafe. We also lead an organization training for staff and volunteers of the Canadian Organization, FOR OUR KIDS https://www.forourkids.ca/.
