The Practice of Confirmation

Confirmation is a sacramental rite that is linked to baptism. In confirmation, a person confirms the early vows made on his or her behalf by parents and godparents. The rite is administered to young people at the age of 15 (as per diocesan policy). Confirmation is conducted as a regional program in Dartmouth. Please contact the parish office by phone or email if you or a loved one wish to be confirmed.
Confirmation also commemorates the gift of the Holy Spirit promised by Jesus to his disciples after his resurrection and received by them on Pentecost. This gift of the Spirit, passed on to other disciples through the laying on of hands, echoes through the history of Christianity. Today's bishops pray that the Holy Spirit be strengthened in the persons being confirmed, helping them to live out the faith of the apostles. (From Anglican Young People's Dictionary, 2004)
